Proudly Providing Chimney Sweep in Harrisburg PA

Are you having chimney issues in Harrisburg, PA? These issues may involve leaks in your chimney that can cause water damage to your home. If your chimney is not cleaned properly, it might not work as well, and there’s a risk of chimney fires.

Plus, if your chimney lacks proper insulation, it could lead to a loss of energy. A damaged damper may affect how air flows in and out of the chimney. Without a rain cap, rainwater may get inside, causing more damage.

How our service works:

A thorough cleaning should include the firebox, flue, and smoke chamber. The sweep should remove all soot and debris and check for damage to the chimney liner or bricks. Ask for a visual inspection of the chimney after cleaning and, if possible, a camera inspection to ensure a complete clean.

In most cases, no. The sweep will be able to access the chimney from the roof or through the fireplace. However, it’s a good idea to be home to answer any questions they may have and to discuss their findings after the cleaning.

If you hear noises or see signs of animals living in your chimney, don’t try to remove them yourself. Chimney sweeps are trained to remove animals safely and their nests without causing damage to the chimney or putting yourself at risk. They may use exclusion methods or traps to remove the animals and then seal any entry points to prevent future problems.

The recommended cleaning frequency depends on how often you use your fireplace and the type of fuel you burn.

Here’s a general guide:

  • Wood-burning fireplaces: Once a year at minimum, more often if you burn a lot of wood (especially two cords or more) or use unseasoned wood.
  • Pellet stoves: Once or twice a year.
  • Gas or oil fireplaces: Once a year is recommended, but less frequent cleaning may be sufficient depending on use.

Regular chimney sweeping removes creosote, a highly flammable buildup from burning wood. This reduces the risk of chimney fires, which can damage your home and endanger your family. Additionally, a sweep can inspect your chimney for damage or blockages caused by animals or debris.

Steps: How to Clean your Chimney

Step 1

We begin by placing a drop cloth in the work area, making sure to protect your floors and furnishings during the sweep process.

Step 2

With the HEPA vacuum on, we insert a spiral wire brush into the flue using expandable rods and slowly progress upwards through the liner and flue towards the chimney cap.

Step 3

During this process, the brush is turned clockwise inside of the flue to remove any brushable soot deposits.

Step 4

Once the flue is swept, our sweeps will brush and vacuum out soot deposits around the damper, smoke shelf, and the firebox.
